Profiles

Profiles let you save complete FriskyMouse configurations and switch between them instantly. Each profile captures which features are enabled along with all their settings, colors, and options. This is perfect for adapting to different presentation contexts or workflows.

Each profile stores a snapshot of all your feature settings. You can create multiple profiles and switch between them at any time, either from the Profiles page or via keyboard shortcuts.

A profile captures settings for every feature:

  • Spotlight: spotlight shape, color, glow, crosshairs
  • Click Effects: ripple profile, animation, colors (left and right click)
  • Mouse Trail: shape, size, color, fade duration
  • Screen Dimming: opacity, hole shape, edge softness, fade
  • Scroll Indicator: color, size, display duration
  • Magnifier: lens shape, zoom level, capture method, image quality
  • Screen Zoom: magnification, pan mode, drawing tool defaults

Without profiles, you’d have to manually reconfigure every feature each time you switch contexts. With profiles and Quick Switch hotkey slots, you can swap your entire setup instantly with a single keyboard shortcut.

  • Teaching: large spotlight, slow ripple animations, and screen dimming turned on so students can follow your cursor easily on a projector or shared screen.
  • Presentations: a subtle spotlight with bold click indicators and screen zoom enabled for live demos to an audience.
  • Screen recording: click effects on with screen dimming, soft edges, and mouse trail enabled to show cursor movement in video tutorials.
  • Daily use: minimal effects with just a small highlight and scroll indicator for personal productivity.
  • Demo / showcase: everything turned on with maximum visibility, ideal for showing off the application itself.
  • Create a new profile from the Profiles tab.
  • Edit any profile to update its settings. (Built-in presets are read-only. See Built-in Presets for the duplicate-then-edit flow.)
  • Delete profiles you no longer need.
  • Duplicate an existing profile (including any built-in preset) as a starting point.

Quick Switch lets you assign up to 3 profiles to dedicated hotkey slots. During a presentation or recording, press the hotkey to instantly switch to that profile, no need to open the settings window.

Setting up Quick Switch:

  1. Open the Profiles tab in settings.
  2. Assign a profile to each of the 3 hotkey slots.
  3. Note the assigned keyboard shortcut for each slot.
Slot Purpose
Slot 1 Primary profile (e.g., your main setup)
Slot 2 Secondary profile (e.g., recording mode)
Slot 3 Tertiary profile (e.g., minimal / off)

Tips:

  • Assign your most-used profile to Slot 1 for quick access.
  • Use Slot 3 as a “reset” or “off” profile to quickly disable all effects.
  • The active profile is indicated in the system tray icon tooltip.
  • See Keyboard Shortcuts for the exact hotkeys.

Profiles are saved as JSON files on disk:

  • Installed mode: %LOCALAPPDATA%\FriskyMouse\Profiles\
  • Portable mode: the Profiles\ folder next to FriskyMouse.exe

You can back up or migrate profiles by copying these files to another machine. See Portable Mode for details on running FriskyMouse from a USB drive.
