Best Practices

Screen recordings are viewed on a variety of devices at different sizes. FriskyMouse effects help viewers track the cursor regardless of their screen size.

Spotlight

Section titled “Spotlight”
  • Use a medium-sized spotlight, large enough to see on mobile but not overwhelming on desktop.
  • Choose a subtle glow (gradient category, 30–50% opacity) so it doesn’t compete with the content.

Click Effects

Section titled “Click Effects”
  • Always enable click effects for recordings. They’re the most important visual cue for viewers.
  • Use different colors for left-click and right-click.
  • Duration of 250–400 ms works well for most recording frame rates.

Screen Dimming

  • Use sparingly in recordings. It can feel heavy in long-form content.
  • Great for highlighting specific UI elements in short tutorial clips.

Recording Software Compatibility

FriskyMouse draws cursor effects using Windows overlays. Most screen recording software captures these effects without issues:

  • OBS Studio
  • ShareX
  • Windows Game Bar
  • Camtasia
  • ScreenPal

If effects don’t appear in your recording, check your recording software’s capture mode. Display capture (or screen capture) typically works best.
